GOATHEADS LOOK TO BUILD ON MOMENTUM AHEAD OF RAPID CITY SERIES

GOATHEADS LOOK TO BUILD ON MOMENTUM AHEAD OF RAPID CITY SERIES

Coming off their first road trip in franchise history, the Goatheads have plenty of positives to build on after earning their first-ever ECHL victory against the Tahoe Knight Monsters. New Mexico collected three of a possible six points during the weekend series, providing an important boost as the team continues to establish its identity early in the inaugural season.

Adding to the excitement surrounding this week's preparations, the Goatheads welcomed two new players assigned from the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League. The additions bring fresh energy and additional depth to the lineup as the coaching staff works to integrate the newcomers into the team's systems ahead of the weekend.

Head Coach Zack Stortini and his staff have continued to emphasize consistency, puck management, and maintaining a strong defensive structure. With the team's first victory now behind them, the focus shifts toward building on that success and putting together complete, 60-minute performances.

Throughout the week, practice has centered on improving execution in all three zones, with particular attention to clean breakouts, quick transitions through the neutral zone, and establishing a more aggressive forecheck. Winning puck battles, limiting turnovers, and generating sustained offensive-zone pressure remain key areas of focus as New Mexico prepares for another divisional matchup.

Offensively, the Goatheads will look to carry over the confidence gained in Tahoe by continuing to generate quality scoring chances, getting traffic in front of the net, and capitalizing on rebounds and second-chance opportunities. Special teams also remain an important part of the team's preparation, with an emphasis on creating opportunities on the power play while maintaining discipline and structure on the penalty kill.

The return home provides another opportunity for the Goatheads to build momentum in front of their fans. With the team continuing to develop chemistry and establish its style of play, this weekend's series against Rapid City presents an important early-season opportunity to turn progress on the practice ice into results on game night.

New Mexico will host Rapid City on Friday, October 30, for Oktoberfest Night, followed by Peanuts Halloween Night presented by the New Mexico Air National Guard on Saturday, October 31. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 PM MT at the Rio Rancho Events Center.
