The New Mexico Goatheads have added another talented forward to their inaugural roster, signing Briley Wood to an ECHL contract for the 2026-27 season.
Wood joins New Mexico after spending the 2025-26 season with the Rapid City Rush, where he appeared in 71 games and recorded 32 points (10 goals, 22 assists).
“Briley is a big, versatile forward who skates extremely well and has already proven he can produce offensively at the professional level,” said Head Coach Zack Stortini. “He plays with pace, competes hard, and can contribute in a variety of situations. His work ethic, character, and potential make him an excellent addition to our team.”
The 23-year-old enters his third professional season after an impressive rookie campaign in 2024-25. Wood split the season between the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League (AHL), the primary developmental league below the NHL, and the Utah Grizzlies. He made his AHL debut with Colorado while totaling 47 points (20 goals, 27 assists) in 72 ECHL games.
Prior to turning professional, Wood enjoyed a standout junior career with the Wenatchee Wild of the Western Hockey League. Serving as an alternate captain during the 2023-24 season, he posted career highs with 28 goals, 34 assists and 62 points in 60 regular-season games before adding 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists) in six playoff games.
Wood becomes the latest addition to the Goatheads' inaugural roster as New Mexico continues building toward the club's first season in franchise history.
The Goatheads open the 2026-27 regular season on Friday, Oct. 16, against the Idaho Steelheads at the Rio Rancho Events Center.
