The New Mexico Goatheads have added another goaltender to the competition heading into their inaugural training camp, inviting Brian Wilson to camp on a Professional Tryout (PTO).
A PTO gives Wilson the opportunity to participate in training camp and compete for a spot on New Mexico’s inaugural roster. Unlike a Standard Player Contract (SPC), the tryout does not guarantee a roster spot for the 2026-27 season.
Wilson heads to New Mexico after a strong 2025-26 season with the Huntsville Havoc of the SPHL. The veteran netminder appeared in 45 games, posting a 24-16-5 record with a 2.35 goals-against average, .924 save percentage and four shutouts.
“Brian is a big, athletic goaltender who brings experience, high character and a strong work ethic to our group,” said Head Coach Zack Stortini. “He’s proven he can perform at the professional level, and we’re looking forward to having him in camp and watching him compete for an opportunity.”
Wilson brings previous ECHL experience to camp, having appeared in nine games between the Cincinnati Cyclones, Newfoundland Growlers, Jacksonville Icemen, Bloomington Bison and Idaho Steelheads. During the 2024-25 season, he earned victories with Jacksonville, Bloomington and Idaho.
The goaltender has spent the majority of the past three seasons with Huntsville. In 2024-25, Wilson went 9-4-2 with a 2.35 goals-against average, .931 save percentage and two shutouts in 15 appearances. The previous season, he appeared in 32 games for the Havoc and finished 16-10-5 with a 2.63 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.
Before turning pro, Wilson played four seasons of NCAA hockey at Niagara University from 2017-21, appearing in 84 games. He posted a career-best .916 save percentage during the 2019-20 season.
Wilson will look to earn a spot with the Goatheads when the team opens training camp ahead of the inaugural 2026-27 season.
