RIO RANCHO, N.M. – The New Mexico Goatheads, proud affiliates of the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and AHL’s Colorado Eagles, announced today that defensemen Hank Kempf and Saige Weinstein have been assigned to the team by the Colorado Eagles.
Kempf, 24, was selected by the New York Rangers in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-2 defenseman spent the 2025-26 season between Colorado and the Utah Grizzlies, recording two assists in seven AHL games and one goal in four ECHL appearances.
The Wilmette, Illinois native played four seasons at Cornell University, totaling 25 points (4G, 21A) in 134 games. Kempf helped Cornell capture back-to-back ECAC Championships in 2023-24 and 2024-25 and earned ECAC All-Rookie Team honors in 2021-22.
Weinstein, 21, is a 6-foot-1 defenseman from Edmonton, Alberta, who spent his first professional season with Colorado and Utah in 2025-26. He recorded one goal in three AHL games with the Eagles and two assists in 30 ECHL games with the Grizzlies.
Prior to turning professional, Weinstein spent four seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL), recording 84 points (18G, 66A) in 244 games. He served as an alternate captain during the 2024-25 season and registered 10 points (2G, 8A) in 20 playoff games as Spokane advanced to the WHL Championship Series.
Both defensemen join New Mexico ahead of the Goatheads' inaugural regular-season opener on Friday, Oct. 16 against the Idaho Steelheads at the Rio Rancho Events Center.
